55/365 – The Morning Catch

Every morning before the sun rises, the fishermen in Kerala are on the beach, rope in hand, pulling in the fishing nets they laid out in the sea the night before.  Anchored by buoys the kilometer wide nets take the strength of ten to fifteen to twenty men to pull in.  With the crash of each wave, the men, feet dug into the soft sand, pull on the rope-an ongoing tug of war with the sea that will last for hours.  But it’s only after the net is brought in and the group surveys the spoils that were pulled in, that the winner of the day’s battle is finally declared.
